Health, Safety and Wellbeing is woven into all aspects of the business and Tranzit Group’s Internal Training and Development Team is dedicated to the ongoing development of our people. Our I-Endorsed Trainers enable us to develop drivers from class 1 through to class 4.
Our people say, having the opportunity to grow, develop within the company is an advantage!
“All our business units link together with a common goal and that common goal is our people because without our people we are nothing.”

Some of our employee’s stories

Gareth Price, Masterton Workshop Manager
Gareth Price joined Tranzit Coachlines as an apprentice diesel mechanic and now manages three Workshops. He has played a significant role in ensuring the smooth transition of our fleet from diesel to electric.
“Tranzit has supported me through my own career journey including upskilling from working on diesel buses to electric. I love how innovative they are as a company – giving us freedom to think outside the square and trial new ideas – such as when we converted a double deck diesel bus to 100% electric, in a Southern Hemisphere first innovation. There was a lot of pride for our team in successfully completing this project and doing it from little old Masterton was pretty cool.”

Callum David, Business Analyst, Cross Country Rentals
“I joined Cross Country Rentals out of university as a business graduate. At that time the company had 150 vehicles and I spent my first-year learning everything from the ground up, including working in the wash bay. I’ve since had opportunities to work in various roles throughout the country and now to support the company’s growth into new markets and influence positive change. What I find exciting is there are plenty of opportunities here if you’re prepared to grab them and there are very clear internal promotional pathways.”

Dana Andrews, Driver, Tranzurban
Dana always knew she wanted to drive big vehicles having been drawn to trucks and buses since she can remember. So when she saw an advert to join Tranzurban she applied, receiving training and now connecting the Upper Hutt community.
“This has been the best training I’ve had in any industry that I have worked in “I say hello, good morning and thank you, and it always brightens my day when someone gets off and says, “have a good day!”

Andre Mendes da Costa, Tranzit Coachlines Driver Trainer
Despite being fascinated by buses as a kid, Andre never thought he’d end up being a bus driver. In fact, he first qualified as an upholstery and textile technician. After a career change, Andre joined Tranzit and has progressed from being a casual charter driver to becoming a driver trainer – guiding new bus drivers as they progress from a Class 1 to a Class 2 licence or from a Class 2 to a Class 4.
“It’s an extension of me trying to help others. Working alongside people with different levels of experience, for example, someone who has only ever driven a car to those with experience driving larger vehicles, has been really rewarding. There’s a lot of preparatory work and I enjoy the teaching and coaching aspect of it because everyone learns differently.”

Connor Mear, Area Manager, Tranzit Coachlines
When the Covid international pandemic happened, Connor was one of many talented young kiwis who returned home to New Zealand and was Tranzit Group’s ‘brain gain’. Since that time Connor has increased his expertise operationally and in managing teams, been adapatable and shown great leadership – being promoted to Area Manager and on our Coachlines, InterCity and Tourism Division’s Sneior Leadership team.
